The concept of measuring unidentified aluminium available for use, which has been left in place, stockpiled or abandoned, is of growing interest to industry. This is aluminium material that is End of Life (EoL), not landfilled or recycled. In a recent study, MM Markets identified both copper and aluminium tonnage potentially available in future.
Compared to copper, recycling of aluminium was found to be relatively efficient, with limited EoL material left in place, stockpiled or abandoned. The single largest identifiable contributor group to EoL aluminium available is thought to be construction and consumer goods. The study findings point to, amongst other things, increasing recycling in select applications.
